I selected Kirk Franklin to play the role as Gabriel for several of reasons. One, we know that from the play that Gabriel fought in the WWII and had returned injured with a metal plate in his head. From this alone we can imagine Gabriel to be a very strong and determined man. Kirk Franklin physical appearance is very fit and strong. However, it goes beyond the physical appearance when considering a candidate to play Gabriel’s role and more with the mental. Gabriel was always singing the words of gospel, something that we know Kirk Franklin is famous for. It had to do with more than just the singing, it was also Gabriel’s love for God and his faith that made him a strong character, and in this scenario we would need to cast an individual with the same amount of passion and faith for God, and Kirk Franklin is the perfect character.
